Au Chung-tak says the eastern outlook of the apartment indicates that it has good feng shui.

This apartment faces east and that means good feng shui. People who live here will prosper. In fact, the chi that boosts prosperity comes from the northeast.

In feng shui, chi is the universal energy constantly flowing around us . It governs our spirit, health, surrounding and fate. By adjusting the flow and direction of chi, feng shui aims to benefit our well-being and bring harmony to our environment.

When you look out of the window in the sitting room, you see two tall buildings which symbolize two pillars of the fire element.

Feng shui divides the world into five elements: water, wood, fire, earth and metal. The fire elements intensifies the chi coming from the northeast of the flat, which boosts the chances of prosperity -- especially rewards from investments -- for the people living here.

But while the location of the apartments is excellent, the interior layout poses a few problems. First of all, when you open the front door, you can see a window directly ahead. If you imagine you flat as a pocket holding money, this window is like a hole in the pocket through which money can easily be lost. In this case, feng shui considers the window a place where beneficial chi escapes.

But this can easily be resolved. You should shut the window and try not to open it at all. Also put up a curtain. The best thing would be to put a bookshelf or wardrobe in front of the window.

It's also significant that there is a joist in the middle of the ceiling. This creates bad feng shui which affects the general health of anybody living in this flat and increases workplace and financial tension.

In order to improve this situation you should stack eight coins along the length of the joist. These must be the traditional Chinese coins with a hole in the middle. They are easy to pick up from a feng shui master. According to tradition, sticking coins along the joist of your house can prospect it against damage from strong winds.

Finally, in the master bedroom, when you get out of bed, if the bathroom door is open, you look straight at the toilet bowl. According to feng shui, the toilet can bring unwanted chi that invites bad luck in a relationship. So a married couple living here many find a third person ruining their relationship, which could lead to divorce.

In order to avoid this kind of problem, you should move the bed to the other side of the room, so that when you get out of bed and the bathroom door is open you do not see the toilet. But if you are single, leave the bed where it is.
